I guess this might qualify as local sports:

This morning my wife and I participated in the Big Chill 5K race in New Brunswick along with about 4000 other people.  It really was pretty fun.  There is a certain commeraderie that comes with running down the road with a few thousand other people.

There was no entry fee, but each participant was asked to bring a new toy ($5 minimum suggested) for donation to local families.  The back wall of the College Avenue gym was LOADED with toys (imagine how many kids will smile just a little bit brighter on Christmas morning).

It was a brisk 26 degrees when we left the house (at 7:45 a.m.) , but we warmed up soon.  I ran in about 26 minutes (the competitor in me says I could have easily taken a couple of minutes off if not for the number of runners...well, maybe not easily).  My wife walked, so when I finished I backtracked to her and we finished together.  So what is the best thing to do after a 5K?  We went straight to the diner for a late breakfast.  A run followed by an omelette and a cup of coffee - it really is a pretty swell way to spend a Saturday morning.

After crossing the finish line they handed out a commemorative pint glass.  Tonight I am making good use of it.
